Room by Room : Episode RXR-1213 -- More Projects »
Learn more ways to make a children's playroom fun: - Mount a drapery rod to the wall and put a roll of white paper on it. Attach small pieces of lattice to the end of two pieces of wood trim cut two inches wider than the paper roll (this will bring it out just slightly from the wall when in place). Nail one trim piece three inches below the rod and another as low as desired to create a place for the paper to feed through (figure A).
When the sheet is full, pull the drawing down and rip it off along the bottom trim piece. Keep the room neat by using Velcro to attach a piece of vinyl to a bookcase front to hide books, toys and games (figure B). Remove it during snack or craft time to protect the carpet. Use the same idea to hide a toy shelf by mounting trim board to the ceiling. Attach Velcro to it and a piece of vinyl for a neater appearance. Add a bright table and chairs for little ones and a rocker in case an adult stops by.
Make a fun ceiling game by gluing Velcro fabric to the ceiling and taping Velcro strips to balls on strings. Throw the ball up to earn points on each shield (figure C).
