An old phonograph cabinet is gutted and covered with fabric to become a unique table.
Robb Whittlef shows Joan Steffend new looks for a window, a strip from a conveyor belt, and an old radio cabinet.
  • A nine-pane window is reinvented as wall art when the panes are etched. The etching adds depth, and designs for the panes can suit the room: names or monograms for a bedroom, fruit for a kitchen, etc. Cover each pane with contact paper. Cut out the desired shape on the contact paper and pull off the design. Use an etching compound found at an arts and crafts store and follow directions carefully, wearing protective clothing. This is an adults-only project.
  • A piece of conveyor belt with metal bins attached is a great organizer in a craft room and or interesting wall art in an urban loft. The belt is cut to the desired length and a hole is cut in the top for hanging. The metal bins are sanded and painted with a fresh coat of paint.
  • An old radio or record player cabinet is transformed into a table when its insides are removed and its outsides are covered with fabric. Pull off the front of the cabinet and secure the lid. Remove the electrical innards of the cabinet and decoupage fabric onto the tops, sides and inside, using more than one pattern if desired. Finish with decorative brads and tacks across the front edge.
