A ceiling light fixture turned upside down and painted makes a quick and inexpensive centerpiece.

An herb drying rack becomes a room divider when outfitted with metal ceiling tins.
  • Fountain: Start with old dishes in different sizes and shapes and a large bowl . Using a ceramic drill bit, drill a hole through each dish to be used in the stack . Stack drilled dishes over a pump (about $50 from a craft store), staggering them a bit. Position a cup over the top of the stack where the water bubbles to keep water from splashing. The dishes used in the arrangement are easy to replace and can be changed to reflect different seasons.
  • Centerpiece: An iron ceiling light fixture becomes a unique centerpiece simply by inverting it. Paint trim and interior one color, turn upside down and paint exterior a different color. Sanding and antiquing stain will give it an aged look. Fill with decorative objects or flowers.
  • Room divider: Remove the wooden dowels from an herb drying rack. Nail squares of tin ceiling tile to the frame on the back and screw together for stability. Fill in the dowel holes and paint the frame. Add decorative finials on the top corners and paint the tiles with metal paint.
