Materials:

glass ornaments
rolling pin
old frame
clear glass (cut to frame size)
mirror (cut to frame size)
acrylic handles
adhesive metal tape
wood backing board
screws
felt pads
gold paint
drill
screwdriver

Steps:

  1. Place ornaments into a plastic bag and seal the bag shut. Use a rolling pin and gently smash, and then roll out the glass to create tiny pieces. When satisfied with their size, carefully pour them into a bowl.
  2. Raise the mirror up off the table by setting it on blocks. Spoon the glass bits onto the mirror and spread them evenly.
  3. Cover the mirror and broken pieces with clear glass piece (figure A). Gently press it down and seal the edges with adhesive metal tape.
  4. Paint the frame with a gold finish and allow to dry.
  5. Drill holes into the edge of the frame and attach the handles with screws (figure B). With the handles in place, turn the tray over on blocks to raise it and set the mirror and glass base in place.
  6. Attach a piece of wood backing with screws all around the edge of the tray (figure C).
  7. Add felt pads to cover the screw heads and protect surfaces.
