Shari Hiller and Matt Fox check out antique sales and garage sales for inexpensive accessories for the cabin. Their tips for bargain shopping include:
- Do your homework. Check the papers to find out where sales will be.
- Go early--before the best items are gone.
- Carry cash. Most sellers don't like personal checks.
- Keep cash in two separate places--one hidden, so a wad of money isn't visible when pulling out that five-dollar bill.
- Don't be afraid to bargain with sellers.
- Take grocery bags to carry home the bargains.
- If you find something sitting on the curb to be thrown away and feel uncomfortable hauling it off, ring the doorbell and get permission from the owner.
