Decorating Cents : Episode DCT-1403 -- More Projects »
Robb Whittlef shares three ideas for turning trash into treasure for the home. He demonstrates how to decorate simple glass vases with light fixture flanges, how to use a door as a focal point in an entryway and how to create a corner shelf out of tongue-and-groove paneling.

Flanged Vases

Add interest to dollar-store glass vases with light fixture flanges. Attach to the top and bottom with epoxy or simply bend down the decorative edge. Group five or six together for greater visual impact.

Foyer Door

Rest an embellished old door in a corner for a fun foyer focal point. Add trim to the top and bottom, replace the screen or wood with a mirror, attach beadboard under the mirror and create a shelf out of a board and a corbel. Unify the look with a coat of paint.

Corner Shelf

Attach tongue-and-groove paneling together to fit in a corner; jig saw three triangular pieces of wood for the top and bottom and middle shelf. Attach a frame to the front and paint the inside of the shelf a dark color to make light-colored collectibles stand out.
