Look for an old hutch with detailed craftsmanship to be used as a bookcase. Use fine-grade sandpaper to dull the laminate and create a good painting surface. Use bright colors to give the bookcase character.

Create a small bookcase or shelf by transforming a window. Take an old window and build a box around the original frame with rough wood. Add a shelf to the middle portion of the window.

Place a queen-sized pillow on the seat of an old chair and drape the chair with a large terry cloth towel. Tie off the four corners with ribbon for an elegant but cozy look.
