Try making a lamp out of a wooden pillar.

Try making a lamp out of a wooden pillar. Porch posts or stair banisters work great, and can be found at flea markets and salvage yards. Simply take the post and attach a base to it so that is will stand upright on its own. Some pillars have a hole through the entire base where the electrical cord can be threaded through. Others will require you to drill a hole diagonally from the center of the top to the side. Run the cord from the top out of the side hole and then down the back of the post. Staple the cord down the back to keep it hidden and secure (be careful not to puncture the cord with the staples). Paint the pillar, and attach lamp hardware and a shade to the top.

An old Mission-style window can be used to create a unique shelf for your home. Attach brackets to the top of the frame to support the shelf, simply a stained piece of wood. The window becomes the back of the shelf. You can also make your shelf
double as a coat or hat rack by adding knobs to the bottom of the window frame.
