Use antique printing type letters and numbers as artwork or to create favorite messages.
Framed Letters
Materials:
antique wood printing type
deep box frame with hook and loop attachment backing
hook and look tape with adhesive backing
scissors
Steps:
1. Remove glass and backing from frame (set glass aside for another project as it won't be needed).
2. Cut hook and loop pieces to fit the letters; remove backing, and then adhere each to the back of type pieces. Arrange as desired on the frame backing, leaving a border for the frame. Replace frame and hang (figure A).
Stamped Message
Materials:
antique wood printing type
scissors
sheet(s) of art printing paper
printing ink(s)
printing brayer
frame
newspapers
Steps:
1. Place art printing paper on a stack of newspapers for padding. Work out message with type.
2. Load brayer with ink and roll over letters/numbers one at a time. Press images and let dry. Use a period to print a border along the top and bottom. Let dry.
3. Frame and hang (figure B).
