  • Create a cute message board with a jellyroll pan. Attach several kitchen magnets to the pan to hold messages and mount it somewhere in the kitchen (figure A).

  • Free up counter space by using an attractive window box for storing oils, vinegar, spices and other items (figure B). Paint the window box to match kitchen colors if desired.

  • Turn a store-bought birdhouse into a decorative utensil holder by simply cutting off the top (figure C).

  • Use a bread pan as a catchall basket in the kitchen. Use the pan to hold items such as sticky notes, pads, pencils, staplers, paper clips or tape.

  • Reuse empty cleanser bottles as decorative flower vases. Just paint the bottles in bold solid colors, then apply cute, whimsical stickers to create art-deco displays (figure D).

  • Turn an old piece of driftwood into an elegant decoration by attaching ribbons and perhaps crystals from a discarded chandelier (figure E). Hang the driftwood from the ceiling for a striking conversation piece.

  • Attach a piece of wide ribbon to the top of the blinds to conceal the cords on each side.
