Book Frame Materials:
book with a plain cover
straightedge
utility knife
tape
double-sided tape or mounting glue
craft paper
pencil
Steps:
- Center photo on book cover and use a straightedge to measure and mark a rectangle that's slightly smaller than the picture being framed so the edges are hidden (figure A).
- Lay some paper behind the book's cover to protect the pages inside and use a utility knife to cut out the hole marked (figure B).
- Tape the picture to the inside cover.
- Attach double-stick tape or spray mounting glue to the back of a piece of stationary paper to back the picture.
Book Lamp
Materials:
lamp parts
lamp stem
bulb
electrical cord and socket
furniture leg protectors
Steps:
- Decide the order the books will be stacked in.
- Drill a hole through each book with a wood drill bit that's slightly bigger than the lamp stem (figure C). Push down hard while drilling because the pages need to be compressed to get a clean hole.
- Tack four feet onto the bottom book (figure D).
- Anchor the lamp with a piece of hardware (another standard lighting component from a hardware store) (figure E). Push the lamp stem through the books.
- Thread the cord through the stem of the lamp and attach a socket.
- Add a shade and a light bulb.
Book Bookends
Materials:
four books
a pair of metal bookends
hammer
nails
Steps:
- Line up two books and slide a bookend between them on the bottom.
- Open the top cover and nail the pages together to sandwich the bookend (figure F).
