Durable Colors paint by Plaid - This paint can be used on metal, glass and many other different surfaces without priming.
glue gun
scissors
super glue type adhesive
Steps:
- Unplug and disassemble a lamp. Squeeze and pull up on the gold socket base. Look for a pressure point marked "press." Push in on pressure point to release the socket. Pull up and notice two wires attached to two small screws. Unscrew with a small screwdriver and pull away wires. Untie the knot in the wire if it is knotted. Unscrew socket holder and hex nut. Slide lamp fittings up and off the center pole.
- Select the style fitting or fittings for the tassel. Use super glue type adhesive to glue different fittings together or use one fitting alone. Fittings usually have a small hole on top and a larger one at the base.
- Insert braided cord in top hole and tie a knot on the bottom end.
- Select type of fringe to use. Unroll fringe out on table and start applying glue from the glue gun and wrapping the glued fringe around the knot at the end of the braided cord. Keep gluing and wrapping fringe until desired thickness. The rolled fringe should fit snug inside the bottom of your chosen fitting. Clip end of glued fringe with scissors. Apply small amount of glue to bottom inside edge of fitting and push fringe roll up into fitting to secure.
- Paint a wire nut to match the tassel or paint it gold using Plaid's Durable Colors paint. Apply some glue to the inside of the wire nut and insert the raw end of braided fringe.
Note: If using thin braided cord, you can finish the raw end by tying it in a knot as close to the end as possible, then tie into another knot. Apply a small amount of glue to the very end of the cord and tuck inside the knot.
