Materials:

sewing machine
serger machine
embroidery machine or hand embroidering supplies
front and back fabric (we used satin)
pillow stuffing or pillow form
embroidery thread
ribbon for tie(s)
tulle "ribbon" or tulle cut in a long strip
scissors
pins
disappearing ink marker

Steps:

1. Cut two pieces of fabric to fit your pillow form, or to whatever size you choose if you plan to use loose pillow stuffing. Allow a seam allowance.

2. Section off a piece of fabric for use with an embroidery machine (figure A) and embroider designs of your choice (figure B). You can embroider by hand if you prefer.

3. Attach one or two small ribbon ties to this front piece to hold the ring(s) on the pillow.

4. Finish one edge of the tulle ribbon using a serger or other stitch (figure C).

5. Pull a thread on the unfinished edge of the tulle to create a ruffle.

6. Pin the raw edge of the tulle ruffle around the edges of the embroidered piece (right side up) so that the finished edge of the tulle is inside the piece (figure D). Stitch the tulle to the pillow top and remove the pins.

7. Then place the back panel of the pillow on top of the tulle and pillow front, right side down (figure E), and sew around the edges, leaving enough space to turn and stuff the pillow or insert the pillow form.

8. Turn the pillow right sides out, and the tulle ruffle will come out also. Stuff the pillow or insert the pillow form and hand-stitch the opening closed.
