Carol Duvall Show : Episode CDS-515 -- More Projects »
Ellie continues the wedding theme by constructing a lovely guest book and matching pen set.
Materials:
1/3 yard White satin for the cover
1/3 yard White contrast fabric for the inside cover
quilt batting
2-2/3 yards Claudette ivory ribbon
1-1/3 yards of 5/8-inch wide Divine creme ribbon
1-1/3 yards of 3/8-inch wide Feather Edge ivory ribbon
1-2/3 yards or 5/8-inch wide WE polyester Ombre creme ribbon
small piece buckram
string seed pearls
variety of pre-made Offray flowers in creme and white tones
one white pen with holder set in a 4" x 4" base
one 9" x 7" guest book
pieces of woven lace or appliques
Steps:
Guest book
- Cut the doubled batting to wrap and fit the front and back cover (approximately 7" x 20") (figure A). Glue to the cover.
- Cut the white satin for the cover (22" x 11"). Place the satin over the batting (figure B), folding the excess to the inside of the cover. Make neat mitered corners (figure C) and pin the satin into place.
- When all the edges are turned under and the book lies flat without wrinkling or buckling when closed, glue the fabric edges to the inside cover.
- Cut two, 8" x 10" pieces of complementary fabric. Fold the edges under to fit inside the front and back covers, fold the top and bottom edges in about 3/4 inch from the edges and bring the inside and outside edges right to the edge.
- Press. Trim excess and glue to the inside cover (figure D).
- Using Claudette, begin at the inside front cover and tuck the end under the top inside edge of the lining, glue at the edge all the way to the outside, around the outside, and to the back inside edge. Tuck under. Repeat with the bottom. The outside should have a 3/4-inch frame all across the top and bottom and the inside lining edge should be covered.
- Down the left side of and about two inches in on the front of the cover, glue a 5-1/2-inch piece of Divine ribbon between the Claudette ribbon. Edge with pieces of Claudette ribbon.
- Create a cabbage rose with a two-inch base of buckram and 24 inches of Ombre ivory colored ribbon (figures E and F).
- Create two pulled leaves each from six inches of Ombre ribbon.
- Glue seed pearls down the center of each leaf.
- Create two, two-loop bows using 10 inches of Divine ribbon for each.
- Create one, six-loop bow using 24 inches of Feather Edge ribbon.
- Assemble the lace, bows, flowers, and leaves into cluster on front (figure G). Finish with a placeholder length of ribbon tucked inside the book (figure H).
Pen with stand
- Unscrew the pen holder from base
- Glue the batting over the base.
- Cut a tiny hole in the center on the 6-1/2" x 6-1/2" white satin.
- Fit the hole over the screw in the center of the base. Fold the satin neatly under the base. Glue in place.
- Cut a piece of tag board just a bit smaller than the dimensions of the base. Cover the tag board with piece of complementary fabric. Glue.
- Secure the tag board to the bottom of the base to cover all raw edges.
- Using Claudette ribbon as a trim around the bottom of the base, glue in place.
- With a one-inch circle of Buckram and about 16 inches of Ombre ribbon, create a cabbage rose.
- Create one pulled leaf with Ombre ribbon. Line the center with seed pearls.
- Make a four-loop bow with the remaining Divine and a six-loop bow with the remaining Feather Edge ribbon.
- Screw the pen holder back onto the base.
- Embellish with lace, bows, Offray pre-made ribbon flowers and cabbage rose with leaf.
