Snowy Holiday Icicles

Light an entry with icicles made out of screen, lights and plastic wrap!
The snowy holiday theme celebrates snowmen and snowballs, snowflakes and icicles. It's a versatile theme because snow people of all shapes and forms can be part of your decorating from November through the spring thaw! Below are some great decorating ideas to create your very own snowy holiday.
Window Screen Icicles

Materials:

metal window screen
sequins, rhinestones, anything that glimmers
plastic wrap
small white outdoor lights or icicle lights
stapler

Steps:

  1. Cut pieces of screen into triangular shapes that measure approximately 13 inches wide at the top (figure A) (the length can vary from 36 to 48 inches). It's good to vary the length, just like icicles in nature.

  • Sprinkle glimmery "ingredients" inside the pieces of screen (figure B).

  • Ball up some plastic wrap and place it on top of the glimmery items, all the way down the length of the icicle you're making (figure C).

  • With the lights, start at the bottom tip of the icicle and lay the lights against the plastic wrap, with the plug coming out the top (widest part of the screen triangle).
  • Pull the edges of the filled triangle together and staple every three to four inches; fold over the rough edges to make a neat seam (you may want to wear gloves to handle the rough screen) (figure D).
  • Crinkle the icicles to give them a natural look and hang along the roofline of your house.

    Fold a square of tissue or lightweight paper in half, quarters, eights and even sixteenths, and then notch the edges with circles, triangles or squiggly designs. Let a child unfold the magical creation!

    Connect pipe cleaners to make large and small snowflake ornaments.

    Solder three pieces of wire together in the center to make a six-pronged frame for adding clear beads to. Hang them from the Christmas tree, in windows or even a fireplace mantel scarf for a sparkling effect.

    Place tiny snow people made of glittery pompoms, a felt scarf, felt ear muffs connected with pipe cleaner and an orange fabric cone nose on top of batting for a cute winter scene.
