Museum of Modern Rubber house box template S936
two 8-1/2" x 11" pieces of medium brown cardstock
small piece thin white cardstock or sticker paper
white pigment stamp pad
white embossing powder
ruler
hobby knife
scissors
pencil
stamp pads
markers, colored pencils, or watercolors
glue or double-side tape

Steps:

Box Sections

  1. Transfer the template on the reverse side onto two pieces of "gingerbread" brown card stock. If preferred, photocopy the template onto card stock. The copied side will face the inside of the box. Cut on all solid lines, and score all dotted lines.
  2. Once cut and scored, modify the roof tabs for each box section. On the first section, stamp the cupcake onto the center of the roof tab. Trim around the contour of the cupcake and along the roof peak score line. Stamp the cupcake on the reverse side.
  3. On the other box section, cut a slot along the roof peak fold line long enough for the cupcake to pass through.
Box Decorations
  1. Stamp the shingle texture onto the roof sections of the box between fold lines A and B. Stamp in white ink and emboss to create the look of frosting. On the section that has the roof tab, stamp the shingles on the roof tab going in the opposite direction as the rest of the roof. Once stamped, trim the roof tab edge to match the shape of the shingles.
  2. Stamp the icing window in white onto the box sides and onto one of the ends.
  3. Stamp one or two of the candy bars to make doors. For a realistic look, stamp with black ink on dark brown paper and highlight with a white pencil.
  4. Stamp extra gumdrops and peppermints onto thin, white paper. Color and add to the box as desired. The peppermint shapes fit exactly onto the circular shapes on the roof. A little glitter on top of the gumdrops makes them look good enough to eat. Stamp candy canes onto white cardstock and add to the box.
Box Assembly
  1. Score and crease all folds well. Apply glue to the inside of the box on the caves and fold the caves up to fasten to the inside of the roof.
  2. Glue tab ends to the inside of the straight end on the other box section, then glue the remaining tab in place. To make the bottom, fold the long flaps in first, then fold up the short flaps until the little tabs click into the slots.
  3. Slide the cupcake through the roof peak slot and push round roof knobs through the roof slots.
  4. Fold the remaining roof tab down over the side of the roof. If desired, a little repositionable tape or glue can be used under this tab to hold it in place.
