These Halloween sneaker ghosts make great centerpieces or ghostly decorations for any spooky party.

A witch, scarecrow and pumpkin man can be created with the same steps as the Halloween sneaker ghost.
Betty Ann Lasley from Dow Styrofoam creates a "sneaker ghost," using scrap fabric, Styrofoam and an old pair of children's sneakers. She shows how to transform the figure into a centerpiece for a Halloween party or for the entranceway. Step-by-step instructions and ideas for designs are included.

Materials:

felt
low-melt glue gun
black thread
Styrofoam (3" balls, 9" cones, eggs)
wiggle eyes (available at most craft store)
toothpicks
16" piece of wire
white cotton fabric
U-pin (or twisted wire)
baby sneakers
wooden stakes
32" circle of white fabric (for the ghost sheet)
scissors
black craft hat
brown construction paper
black marker
serrated knife

  • Sew and stitch the mittens.

    Figure D
  • Take a 16-inch piece of wire, cover with white cotton fabric and insert each end into the mashed foam mitten hands.

  • Glue the fabric to the mittens (figure C). This creates the arms.

  • Glue the arms to the nine-inch foam cone and secure with a U-pin (figure D) .

  • Slice a foam egg into two pieces and place each in a pair of baby shoes.

  • Insert a wooden stake into each half of foam and attach to the bottom of the nine-inch cone.

  • Take the 32-inch circle of white fabric, cut out two little holes for the eyes and drape over the foam sneaker ghost. Fold the fabric to create layers.

  • Top with a black craft hat, a paper heart with a Halloween inscription and a bag of goodies (made from brown construction paper).
