Children have known about these surprise balls for years. They are nothing more than a bunch of little "prizes and surprises" wrapped in a crepe paper streamer to form a ball. What fun to start unrolling the ball and finding all the little goodies that tumble out as the ball is unrolled.
Viewer Susan Hoornstra of Burlington, Iowa suggested turning the balls into snowmen by placing features and a hat on a white ball for Christmas surprises, or ears to make a bunny at Easter time.
Host Carol Duvall and crew thought it might be fun to turn the tables on mother and surprise her with such a ball containing all manner of little things that might please mother. The bright yellow crepe paper streamer ball that Dvuall unrolled contained rubber stamps, and stickers, and a lipstick, and earrings, and a pin, and at the very center, a very special necklace. This could be a nice gift for all the children to give to grandma with everybody making their little contribution. If you've not tried rolling one of these before, it can be a surprise to you to find that, somehow, it all seems to end up in a round ball shape. Here's how to create this easy-to-construct and most unique gift wrap.
Materials:
yards and yards of colorful crepe paper
gifts to wrap such as rubber stamps, stickers, framed photos, bracelets, charms, jewelry, wrapped candies, etc.
Note: The ball of gifts can be as small as an orange or as large as a beach ball, depending upon how many items you want to include.
Steps:
Starting at one end of the crepe paper, roll the paper around one gift item at a time, enclosing each item inside the paper until you've formed ball with gifts enclosed inside. Tape or glue the end of the crepe paper to the ball to secure.
Decorate the completed ball--be creative! Use buttons, flower petals, ribbons, or try a smiley face.
