Before: Torn Sofas and Dirty Carpet
Jon Campion and his young sons, Jack and Teddy, lost their wife and mother to a rare form of cancer six months ago. Now, they face their first holiday season without her. Host Joan Steffend and designers Shayne Barness, Kelli Kaufer, and Robb Whittlef join forces to give the family home a very special makeover for the holidays. Each designer will have $500 to makeover the family’s living/dining room (pictured above) and Dad’s bedroom, then they'll give it homespun, holiday style.

After: A New Living Room
First, designer Shayne Barsness tackles the living/dining room. As an extra gift, outside the $500 budget, the family receives new carpeting, new sofa and a new chair for the living room. For a more masculine, clean look, the walls are painted khaki and the trim around the windows and doors are painted white. A second-hand TV stand, shelf, end table and coffee table are all painted semi-gloss black for a cohesive look.
