Snowflakes from lace, snowmen from rubber stamps and foam stamps for decorating the holiday dishes were all items I showed on today's program. The snowflakes from lace were made in minutes using a 12 inch length of Wright's Snowflake Lace and a one-inch cabon ring. The lace comes in a variety of styles but all have a row of holes near one edge.
Materials:
12 inches of banded lace with row of holes along one edge
one-inch cabon ring
scissors
white glue
optional: jewels, beads, or buttons
Wright's packages a yard of lace specifically designed to make three of these snowflakes, but any banded lace with cutouts near the top edge will work. Wright's also packages the cabon rings specifically as snowflake rings.
Steps:
- Cut a length of lace along one edge so that the holes are as close the the edge as possible. This is to eliminate bulk in the center of the completed "snowflake".
- With scissors make a cut in one edge of the cabon ring, gently pull one edge out and thread it back and forth through the holes in the lace.
- When entire length is threaded, even out the gathers and lightly glue the two edges of lace together.
- Add a hanging cord or narrow satin ribbon If desired add a flat backed jewel, button, or applique to the center.
