The hobnail milk glass lamp base by Maura Daniel ($80) at Layla Grayce adds a touch of vintage to the bedroom. Adding an oversized shade in a complementary color would wake up any sleepy bedside table. Shade sold separately.

Colored acrylic plus mesh fabric shade equals a funky modern table lamp called Tube Top ($99) from Room & Board. The lamp comes in a variety of colors: hot pink, ruby red, black, bright green, sky blue, cobalt blue, clear and smoke.

Pull-switches are great for lamps next to the bedroom, and even better when they're reverse painted in Damask French Blue ($135) from Layla Grayce.

It's a shame you have to close your eyes to sleep, because we'd love to look at this lamp all night long. Mercury bubbles and waves fall across the shiny Lake Mercurius Lamp ($128) from Anthropologie. Shade sold separately.

For clean lines next to the bed, and uplighting that won't hurt your eyes, opt for West Elm's square wood uplight lamp ($59-69). Geometric shapes are an easy way to add dimension and purpose to a bedroom with lots of boxy furniture.
