Use spray paint to achieve this striped stone effect.
Transform a lamp base into a piece of art with help from Donna Babylon. Not only does the stone finish add texture and depth to a lamp, but this easy designer look is accomplished with just paints.

Materials:

ceramic lamp base
sandpaper
tack cloth
masking tape
painter's tape
Krylon Primer
Krylon Living Colors acrylic paint
Krylon Make It Stone kit

Steps:
  1. Rough up the lamp base with sandpaper.
  2. Remove dust and dirt with tack cloth.
  3. Cover up any working parts of the lamp with masking tape.
  4. Completely cover the lamp base with primer and allow to dry.
  5. Using a back-and-forth movement, spray-paint the base with acrylic color.
  6. Allow to dry 24 hours so the paint can cure.
  7. You can create a design on the lamp base with painter's tape. The area you mask off will not have the "stone" look.
  8. Apply spray stone in short spurts. Allow this coat to dry for at least six hours.
  9. Apply the clear protective coat that comes in the stone kit.
  10. Remove the painter's tape by pulling it back over itself.
