Stamp on suede to create lampshades, pillows and picture frames to coordinate with any decor. This project demonstrates an overprint technique: using two colors and printing slightly off register over the first image to create an image with depth and dimension.
Materials:
suede material
lampshade
pencil
large craft paper
foam stamp - leaf
stamping paints - tomato spice and black
plastic-coated paper plate
wedge sponges
fabric glue
Steps:
- To create a pattern of the lampshade, roll it on craft paper while running a pencil along the top. Carefully roll the lampshade backwards repositioning the pencil at the bottom edge of the lampshade to make the bottom part of the pattern. Cut the pattern out and use it to cut the suede to the proper dimensions.
- Pour the tomato spice stamping paint onto the paper plate and load the flat edge of a wedge sponge with paint.
- Apply the tomato spice stamping paint onto the foam stamp with a patting motion. Stamp onto the suede. Reapply the paint onto the foam stamp after stamping each image. Clean the stamp with water and paper towels.
- Allow the paint to dry.
- Apply the black stamping paint onto the foam stamp with a patting motion. Stamp over the previously stamped tomato spice image slightly off register. Repeat for other images, reapplying the paint onto the foam stamp after stamping each image.
- Use fabric glue to adhere suede to lampshade.
