Registered interior designer Deborah Burnett explains how to enlighten our homes and lifestyles by using lights to achieve that extra-dimensional decorative effect, including tricks on using uplights and picture lights.
Kinetic light: Any source that gives off both heat and light such as the flames from a candle or an open fire.
Natural light: Any source of light from the heavens such as the sun, moon, stars and other natural occurrences.
Artificial light: There are two types:
- Decorative lamps and fixtures that can be moved from one space to another. In addition to table lamps, plant up-lights and art portrait lights are included in this group.
- Architectural lighting included all light sources that are a physical aspect of the building or mounted directly into the ceiling. Recessed light fixtures and custom-built fluorescent light boxes are a good example of this type.
