Materials:
wooden planter box
hammer
rotary saw (or drill and jigsaw)
finishing nails
metal flashing
latex paint
sandpaper
tea lights
glass candleholders
Steps:
1. If desired, apply a coat of latex paint and let dry.
2. Mark the center, and then mark where the number of desired holes will go.
3. Use a square shape to trace the squares and cut along the lines using a rotary saw. If you do not have a rotary saw, drill a starter hole with a large drill bit , and then insert a jigsaw and cut along the lines. Sand the rough edges.
4. Unscrew the back panel of the box and remove it. Cut a piece of metal flashing to the size of the removed panel and attach it with finishing nails. Reattach the panel to the box.
5. If necessary, place a piece of scrap wood inside to elevate the candles so the light shines through the openings. For safety reasons, use tea lights placed inside of glass candleholders.
6. Touch-up the paint.
