Farmhouse Eating Area

Host Joan Steffend and designer Keri Beyer redecorate a farmhouse-style eating area.
  • The walls are painted with a translucent sage green wash (2 parts water to 1 part paint) and the cabinets are painted a creamy white. (A paint sprayer speeds up the process.)
  • The wall-to-wall cabinets are given a boost with chicken wire panels in the center cabinets. Fabric-covered cardboard inserts are attached to the back of the cabinets for even more interest.
  • The chandelier is dressed up with beaded trim hot-glued to the top of each shade.
  • Beaded trim is also used to dress up a white linen table runner and napkin rings.
  • The centerpiece is comprised of silk flowers tucked around the homeowner's antique coffee service. Inexpensive votives add even more sparkle.
  • Accessories include a basket of dried hydrangeas, a clock previously used in the kitchen and the homeowner's miniature tea sets.

How-to: Chicken Wire Cabinet Doors

Steps:

  1. Measure out the opening on the cabinets doors and mark with a pencil.
  2. Drill four pilot holes and cut out the panels with a jigsaw.
  3. Cut the chicken wire to size and staple to the back.
