Add a soft industrial touch to a lamp by topping it with a colander shade.
Materials:

lamp base
chimney top fitter wire
colander (or mesh food protector)
chrome spray paint
flexible wire
paper towel
glue

Steps:

  1. If the lampshade has a chimney top fitter wire, remove the shade by cutting it off the wire so it can be reused (or buy one from a lamp store).
  2. Choose a colander or food protector that covers the chimney top fitter wire . Secure the colander to that piece with three pieces of wire until it's tight.
  3. Protect the lamp socket with a paper towel and spray-paint the entire lamp base and cord. Let dry.
  4. Put the bulb through the chimney top and screw into lamp socket.
  5. Glue the hanger on the colander in place to serve as the finial.
