Interior designer Shirley Horowitz shows how to look for objects at flea markets and antique stores that can be turned into fabulous lamps.

Tips:

  • Find a tall, unique architectural piece, baluster or a table leg to use for a base.
  • Use an incense burner for a lamp. If it's a valuable antique, don't ruin it by drilling a hole for the cord. Look for ones with holes already or run the wiring behind it without damaging the piece.
  • Search for unique figures or picture frames and mount them on a stand to turn them into a lamp.
  • Old kerosene ones can be wired for electricity.
  • Chinese vases and jars make great lamps.
  • Lamps from candlesticks are easy to make.
