Manzanita-branch chandelier
Designer consultant Spencer Anderson of Design on a Dime demonstrates how to create a one-of-a-kind light fixture out of branches.

Materials:

hand saw
three Manzanita branches (typically found at local floral marts)
light-cord set (Hemma-style cord set - Ikea.)
low-watt light bulb
wire wrapped in raffia or other natural fiber
nail gun
ceiling hook
staple gun

Steps:

1. Use a hand saw to cut Manzanita branches to desired length and shape.

2. Bundle the branches together, and thread the light-cord set through the center.

3. Bind the branch bundle and light kit together by wrapping with raffia-covered wire (figure A). The raffia helps the wire blend in with the wood.

4. Secure the binding site with a nail gun.

5. Insert the light bulb. Hang from a hook in the ceiling and then staple the cord along the ceiling (figure B) and down the wall. Plug into the wall, and that's it.
