A fabric wrapped chandelier is wonderful for dressing up a stylish chandelier or hiding an ugly chandelier. Cindy Piccoli turned a plain wooden light fixture into a beautiful one by adding a coat of metallic paint and lovely gauze.
Materials:
gauze fabric, approx. 1 yard for each chandelier arm*
10 glass beads or prisms
3 yards wire ribbon
dried or silk flowers (optional)
*2 yards metallic polyester organza, or any translucent fabric that will capture the light can be used in place of gauze
Steps:
- Machine hem the fabric on all sides so the fabric does not fray.
- Tie each gauze strip around the base of chandelier where the arm extends. Wrap or drape gauze decoratively on each arm of the fixture.
- The gauze should drape evenly on the chandelier arms.
- To embellish the gauze, sew small prisms or glass beads onto the corners (similar to tablecloth weights) or use tiny brass safety pins to attach prisms. By using safety pins it makes it much easier to remove them and wash the fabric.
- Also, embellish with nice wire ribbons tied onto the candle bases hanging down from the center of the chandelier.
- For a Victorian look try adding dried or silk flowers, decorative cording, or tassels to the fabric.
