This segment throws a little light on the Queen Anne-style home of Thomas Edison, the prolific inventor whose creations include the incandescent light bulb and the phonograph.
Edison's home in West Orange, New Jersey, was built by noted New York City architect Henry Hudson Holly and was decorated to impress visitors. It features a mahogany staircase, expensive textured Lincrusta-Walton wall coverings and a drawing room furnished with elaborate rococo revival furniture (figure A).
Also featured is a visit to Edison's nearby laboratory (figure B), which includes a three-story library that the inventor considered his second home as well as a large statue called Genius of Electricity.
