Josh Behrman grew up on Long Island, where he was raised by his mother and two sisters. He attended Florida State college, but was asked to leave because he spent more time partying than studying. His sister Michelle helped him get a job in New York City with fashion designer Pat Young. He did well in that business and moved up the corporate ladder to become vice president of sales for Tommy Hilfiger.
Berman then decided to start his own clothing-design company, which he called Odeon. It wasn't long before he opened a second label called Radio Tokyo. His clothes sold at shops such as the Limited, Bloomingdale's, Macys, Saks Fifth Avenue, etc.
When silk went out of fashion, he developed two new labels called New London and Terrapin. The latter won an award from the male arm of Women's Wear Daily, DNR. Despite his success, Berman was several million dollars in debt, and his creditors owed him the same. He decided to let the bank pay his debt, and he walked away from the business.
Now jobless, Berman helped a friend move to Aspen, Colorado, and he decided to make Aspen his home, too. He tried designing sports gear for Aspen's ski and bike enthusiasts, but nothing caught on, so he took a job as a salesperson at local radio station KSPN.
After six months, he was promoted to sales manager, then a year later to general manager of two stations. He deals with sales figures, marketing and overseas programming, and he said he loves that his job keeps him involved in the community. Not only did Aspen lead him to a job, but it also led him to his current girlfriend, Suzanne Gouda. She runs an Aspen store called Funky Mountain Threads.
Suzanne and Josh live in a cabin near the Rolling Rock River, just 15 minutes outside of Aspen. They spend a lot of their free time enjoying the outdoors and activities such as fly-fishing, biking and snowboarding.
Berman said that although he sometimes misses his family and he does not make as much money as he used to, he feels that he has made the right choice. He said he lives a more simple life in a beautiful place and has a job and relationships that are good for him.
