Use fabric dye to give color to unfinished pieces.
Prym-Dritz's fashion director, Dianne Giancola, demonstrates how to dye natural wood and wicker to create beautiful home furnishings.

Materials:

Dylon Cold Water Fabric Dye
gloves
unfinished wood
220 grit sandpaper
tack cloth
paintbrushes
wood appliques backed with pressure sensitive adhesive
polyurethane
steel wool

Steps:

  1. Mix one packet of dye with one cup of water.
  2. Sand the unfinished wood and wipe with a tack cloth.
  3. Apply stain. If a light stain is desired, immediately wipe off excess with a rag.
  4. Soak small wood appliques in different dye colors. Attach to frame.
  5. Apply three coats of polyurethane, sanding in between each coat with steel wool.
