Guest Connie Sheerin transforms an ordinary wood shelf with brackets into a whimsical, tea-time mosaic masterpiece using tile and broken china pieces.

Steps:
Preparation
- Mold and paint Faster Plaster accent pieces. Make one large teapot, two small teapots, and two cups. Finish accent pieces with Mosaics sealer.
- Fill holes in shelf with wood filler. Sand. Paint with primer paint. Sand when dry. Paint areas of wood that will be untiled with one coat of acrylic paint.
- Nip some of the tiles into smaller pieces.
Design
- Tile top of shelf in straight rows, alternating light blue and royal blue in a checkerboard design (figure A). Let dry.
- Glue accent pieces in place on backboard (figure B).
- Alternate light blue and royal blue tiles around edges of the backboard (figure C).
- Fill in around accent pieces with pieces of yellow tiles.
- Grout design (figure D). Let dry.
- Apply a second coat of each acrylic color on untiled parts of wood.
Tips:
- Candy molds work well with Faster Plaster and come in all kinds of shapes.
- Use old toothbrush or stiff bristle brush to brush off excess grout.
