TIPical Mary Ellen host Mary Ellen Pinkham shares some of her most creative tips for decorating with end tables.

  • A hamper or large basket makes a great end table and a great place to store blankets. Cover with a tablecloth or blanket, if you choose.

  • Antique orange crates also make unique end tables.

  • Top a birdbath with a glass top (figure A). Fill it with dried flowers or other items from natural materials.

  • Use stacked antique or no-longer-used suitcases (figure B) as unique end tables.

  • Find a couple of antique wire spools to use as end tables. Look in the yellow pages under cable or wire.

  • Use bed steps as an end table. Arrange books and other household knickknacks on the steps or just leave them plain.
