Materials:

3/4" plywood
circular saw
wood glue
nail gun
1/8" luan plywood
1x6 poplar
Aspen lumber
flush spackling compound
220-grit sandpaper
primer/paint or stain
tack cloth or rags

Steps:

1. Use a circular saw with a guide to cut the two sides, top and bottom and two shelves to the desired dimensions. Secure the pieces together with wood glue and a nail gun. Add shelf dividers for extra storage in the same manner.
2. Cut a piece of luan plywood to fit the back (except the uppermost shelf) and cut out holes for the TV to vent and cords from equipment on the bottom shelves.
3. Cut 1x6 lumber to create storage for tapes, DVDs or CDs along one side of the unit and use wood glue and nails to secure it in place.
4. To cover all the unsightly plywood edges, cut thin pieces of Aspen to size and attach them with wood glue and nails.
5. Fill in all the nail holes with flush spackling compound and let dry. Sand the entire piece until smooth and remove the dust with a tack cloth or damp rag. Stain or prime/paint the piece as desired and let dry.
