Bruce Johnson from Minwax explains how to transform an unfinished wooden room screen into a decorative accent that can be used to conceal an unattractive view or add interest to any corner.
Materials:
unfinished interior doors
sandpaper
wood conditioner (The guest used Minwax brand.)
color stains and finishes in green and brown (The guest used Minwax brand.)
water-based finish (The guest used Minwax brand.)
measuring tape
utility knife
corkboard
tile adhesive
notched trowel
paint roller
Steps:
- Sand doors lightly.
- Apply wood conditioner.
- Stain the panels green (figure A), then let dry.
- Stain the framework brown (figure B), then let dry.
- Apply a coat of water-based finish.
- Measure the middle panel for dimensions. Using a utility knife, cut the corkboard to fit those dimensions (figure C).
- Apply the tile adhesive to the middle panel with the notched trowel (figure D). Place corkboard on the adhesive.
- Use a paint roller to secure the corkboard (figure E).
