Materials:

220-grit sandpaper
primer
latex satin paint for base coat (Ralph Lauren Coldwater Canyon)
paintbrushes
glazes: Ralph Lauren Harness Brown (LEO 1) and Wellington Steeplechase (LEO 6)
polyurethane
Steps:
1. Remove the hardware, and then clean the piece with mild soap and warm water. Let dry.
2. Sand the entire piece and remove the dust. Prime all surfaces and let dry.
3. Brush on the base coat color and let dry.
4. Use a slightly loaded brush to pounce the dark glaze from the edges of the four corners, and then feather it toward the center. Apply it heavier on the outside and lighter toward the inside (figure A).
5. Brush a light layer of the lighter color glaze over the entire surface. Repeat with two more light coats, allowing it to dry between layers.
6. Apply two or three coats of polyurethane for protection, allowing it to dry between layers.
