Figure C
How does your house say "welcome"? In country style, it's easy to do. Coastal Living magazine's Carol Vose shares how to brighten up the entrance to a country home using colorful patio furniture and country accents.
  • Unique items are spread around the garden at different heights. An urn is attached to a fence post and used as a planter (figure A) and a birdhouse is perched even higher upon another fence post.
  • Vose says to treat exterior walls just like interior walls and decorate with favorite finds. A reproduction cast-iron plant holder provides a space for a hanging basket of purple blooms (figure B).
  • A metal patio chair and table set from the 1940s provides seating (figure C). The chairs and table are from different sets for an eclectic look, however a new coat of paint helps to unify the grouping. Vose scraped off any paint chips, sanded each piece and painted it all with pink and blue paint. She didn't apply a sealer but suggests using a primer and an oil-based paint for a permanent finish.
