The Carol Duvall Show crew made their way to Christine Angeli's home for a peek at her beautiful new nursery. With help from her friend, Annette Allen Watkins, she was able to transform a plain, unfinished room into something any little girl, of any age, would love. Angeli started by applying a plain white wallpaper border around the room, except instead of placing it at the top of the wall, it was placed at about the same height a chair rail would be placed. Next, she painted the entire wall, including the wallpaper border, to allow for a smooth finish. She could then use the wallpaper border as a guide when she stamped. With the stamps that Watkins designed, Angeli made several templates out of butcher paper, which she taped to the wall to determine the best design placement. It's a good thing she did! Her original idea was to use a medium size polka dot on the walls. After placing the butcher paper on the wall, she decided it looked too busy. After deciding what they wanted for the room, Watkins and Angeli started stamping.
Stamping For Heart and Home Materials:
white paint for whitewashing
unfinished trunk
For Heart and Home stamps, paints and stencils
permanent marker
acetate
Steps:
- Whitewash entire trunk.
- Stamp with For Heart and Home stamps.
- Cut a piece of acetate to mask over any images you want to hide. This is a great effect for when you want the leaves to look three dimensional and as if they are behind the flowers.
- Let this dry. Place a For Heart and Home stencil over images to help with shading.
- Outline everything with a permanent fine tip marker.
- Use a square stamp to create a border around the trunk.
Tips and Hints:
- As a preliminary design step, cut stamped designs from paper and arrange them on your walls or furniture. Secure lightly with tape to check layout and color. This method will give you a clear idea of how the finished scheme will look.
- Stamp window borders six to eight inches above the top of your window. This way you can mount your curtain high to evoke the feeling of a larger window and to allow more light to enter the room.
- If you're using the For Heart and Home stamps and paints on fabric, be sure to use a textile medium since you can wash it and the colors will not come off.
