How to apply milk paint
Bruce Johnson explains how to apply milk paint:
  1. Remove any wax or polishes using wood cleaners or mineral spirits on a cloth.
  2. Scuff the old finish slightly to provide better adhesion.
  3. Mix thoroughly the powdered milk paint into an equal amount of warm water and let stand for 10 minutes to thicken.
  4. Using a foam brush apply a uniform coat of paint. Add a second if needed, about an hour later.
  5. After the final coat has dried, use fine sandpaper and steel wool to rub off the paint on highlighted areas, such as edges, around knobs and on the front of shelves.
