The most popular use for acrylic these days is chairs because they are stylish and comfortable. New space-age acrylics that come in vibrant colors are easier to stack and can be used indoors or out.

Sculptural playing pieces give this chess set the royal treatment making it a design that's impossible to escape.
Matthew Izzo shows some of the new looks in acrylic furniture. Around since the 50s, today's acrylic is much more durable. Then, Sherry Jo Williams shows some great new acrylic chairs.

  • Acrylic is a heavy plastic medium that can be used for furniture or accessories as it is a source of catching light and glows more brilliantly than glass. Other advantages over glass are that it can be molded into great designs that are tough and it's easy to care for.

  • Today's acrylic doesn't yellow due to improved technology and scratches can be easily cleaned up.

  • Never use a glass cleaner on acrylic. Instead, use a plastic cleaner available at most hardware stores.
