Create interest on a plain bookshelf with decorative carved accents painted to bring out their detail.
Materials:

bookcase
wood glue
primer
acrylic paint (turquoise, burnt umber)
paintbrushes
carved hardwood accents
acrylic spray sealant

Steps:

1. Prime bookcase if necessary and let dry. Paint turquoise and let dry.

2. Brush burnt umber over hardwood accents and let dry. Brush a bit of turquoise over the accents to bring out the carved details. Let dry.

3. Lay bookcase on its back and arrange the accents as desired. Glue each in place.

4. Cover entire bookcase with at least three coats of spray sealer.
