When designers consider plastic for use in the home, they think about furnishings like chairs and coffee tables plus accessories such as lamps.
- Some of the most popular plastic items today are chairs. They're being designed to add a sleek, sculptural and colorful look to a den, family or dining room and they're less expensive than most traditional upholstered chairs (figure A).
- Coffee tables complement basic seating areas in the home plus they're durable and easy to clean. Some come with lights inside to add ambiance to a space. Today 's plastic won't melt no matter how long the light is on as long as the recommended wattage is used.
- Designers say today's plastics are designed to be on display, not hidden away in closets or cabinets (figure B).
- Plastics don't only work in modern or contemporary settings--they can be integrated into any decor as furnishings are more eclectic now.
- Look in local art and stationary supply stores for unique office accessories made from plastic.
