Recliners
Smart Design : Episode SDN-103 -- More Projects »
Recliners are no longer the biggest or bulkiest chairs in the room. Today they stand out for completely different reasons and come in a wide range of designs. - Recliners are still the comfortable and inviting chairs we remember--they've just got a lot more style and pizzazz now to suit any home decor.
- These chairs are becoming more fashionable, sleeker and they obviously don't look like the recliners of the past. They used to be basically designed for men but the women of the house now want something more tailored to them.
Fabrics have been updated to fit the more modern look of the chairs (figure A). Chenille, tone-on-tone and even tapestry fabrics create a rich look on the recliner. With the range of styles and fabrics available, recliners are appealing to young adults just starting out in their first home.
Today's recliners lean toward technology. E-cliners have a smooth and silent electrical mechanism, which replaces the visible side lever, to position the chair where desired . Some have armrests that hide a laptop computer holder (figure B).
