Figure B
Designer Mark Boone of the Mimi London Show Room explains the use of less traditional wood furniture in decorating the home.
  • Spruce is a soft wood known for its knotting and cracks and is primarily used for large-scale furniture pieces (drum tables in figure A).
  • Sugar pine is a soft wood with less knotting, which lends itself to a cleaner, finer design (chair in figure A).
  • Oak is a strong wood with a definitive look. It's being used in non-traditional ways, like a contemporary table (figure B).
  • Elm is a hard wood that is used for finer furniture design.
