Interior designer, Janie Petkus, creatively uses garden ornaments and furniture inside:
- When the weather turns cold, bring outdoor patio furniture in to enhance the interior .
- An iron trellis becomes a work of art when hung inside on a narrow wall (figure A). It can also frame the sides of a window to soften the edges without hanging a window treatment.
- Antique watering cans in their original copper or paint finishes make interesting collectibles (figure A). Put them above cabinets to highlight the workmanship .
- Iron urns with intricate designs and details are reproduced today and can be used to hold topiaries, orchids or fill them with green apples for a table decoration (figure A).
- Stone ornaments from garden gates and candlesticks that look like old porch balustrades add a relaxed cottage touch (figure B).
- Protect the bottoms of lead or stone pieces with felt tabs.
- Rest a gazing ball (Victorians enjoyed them in their gardens) in an urn or architectural fragment on a mantel. Flank it with topiaries in outdoor planters (figure C).
- Use an outdoor French bistro set in a small corner of a kitchen or breakfast nook . Tie it into the room's decor with vintage linens.
