Video: Hide an unsightly radiator with a sturdy and attractive wood and metal cover.
Materials:

solid oak and oak plywood
jigsaw
decorative trim
miter box
stain
finish nails
hammer
metal screens
2 mending brackets
wood glue
staple gun
polyurethane

Steps:

1. Measure the radiator and add at least two inches all around to the dimensions for airflow. Use oak plywood for the sides, bottom and top (1" x 4" for the first two and 1" x 6" for the top) and solid oak for the front facing. Add decorative trim to the top board to finish it.

2. Trace a small can to get an arc for the curved detail on the bottom of the side and front pieces. Cut the shape out with a jigsaw.

3. Nail mitered decorative trim to the sides for interest (figure A).

4. Add a center rail with mending brackets to support the metal screens. Trim the edges of the front openings as above.

5. Attach all the pieces together with wood glue and finish nails. Staple the screens to the back of the front piece every six inches.

6. Stain the piece as desired and let dry. Apply polyurethane for protection.
