"Woods do change colors," says May. "Cherry starts out a very, very blonde color...but in six months to a year, after it is finished in a piece of furniture, it'll be just the most beautiful red burgundy."
Warren May's finely crafted wood furniture and Appalachian dulcimers are exquisitely made to bring out the natural beauty of the wood, often down to the occasional rough edge he incorporates into a table or the natural knothole sound hole in his dulcimers. Each piece is unique. May not only shows us how he created his works of art, he also gives a lesson in wood, talking about the attributes of various types of wood, how the colors change with age, care of fine wood furniture and what to look for when buying.
