The moment a picture frame becomes a footstool, you know you've done something creative.
Materials:

picture frame
spray paint
water-based acrylic paint
plywood
foam (2 inches thick)
fabric (any leftover scraps will do)
staple gun
hammer
nails
4 curtain finials

Steps:

  1. Begin by spray painting the picture frame any color you choose. Follow this step by white-washing the frame with acrylic paint. The colors can match the fabric you have.

  2. Next, cut two pieces of inexpensive plywood. The first piece should match the exterior dimensions (the outside) of the frame. The second piece should match the interior dimensions (the picture area) of the frame. The exterior piece should be painted the same color as the frame.

  3. Cut a piece of foam that matches the dimensions of the interior plywood (the small board), then place the foam on top of your fabric.

  4. Place the small board on top of the foam, then bring the fabric up and fold over the board, as if you are wrapping a present. Use a staple gun to attach the fabric. Remember to pull the fabric as taut as possible around the foam and board. Trim away excess fabric after stapling.

  5. Push the foam side of the small board through the picture frame. Lock this piece in by backing it with the larger board. This may take as many as 20 nails to firmly attach.

  6. After nailing the large plywood board to the picture frame, your last step is to simply screw in the curtain finials to serve as legs. The footstool can be taller or shorter, depending on the type of finial. You can also attach fringe around the entire edge to polish the look.
